Issue:

How do I know which battery to replace in my SURT15K or SURT20K UPS?

Product Line:

Smart-UPS Online

Environment:

All 15Kva and 20Kva models, All Serial Numbers

Cause:

Batteries in a Smart-UPS need to be replaced every 3-5 years based on usage and environment.

Resolution:

When the UPS alerts you that it has a bad battery, the red LED on the affected battery frame will illuminate. The UPS does not monitor the individual battery modules and is unable to tell you exactly which pair(s) of modules is bad. You should always replace all of the modules in a frame at the same time. Each frame uses (Qty 4) APCRBC140 Replacement Battery Cartridges. Each APCRBC140 contains 2 modules, for a total of 8 modules in each battery frame. If you have other attached frames of a similar vintage, it is likely that they will need to be replaced as well. We do not recommend mixing old and new batteries in the same UPS. On average your batteries should last 3-5 years. Environment and application can have a dramatic affect on the life cycle of your batteries.

Note: The replacement battery for these models used to be RBC44. This model battery was replaced with part number APCRBC140. Runtime and battery life is exactly the same for both model batteries.
