PowerChute Business Edition – Configure SNMPv3 settings via configuration file

Issue:
PowerChute Business Edition v10.0+ includes a configuration file (pcbeconfig.ini) that saves your configuration so you can apply the same configuration to another copy of PowerChute on a different machine. Information entered in the SNMP Settings screen in the PowerChute Business Edition Agent is saved to the configuration file. However, SNMPv3 passphrases are not saved as they need to be stored securely. As a result, when the pcbeconfig.ini file is copied over to another machine, the SNMPv3 settings are not successfully carried over.

Product Line:
PowerChute Business Edition version 10.0 and higher

Environment:
All supported operating systems.

Resolution:
To copy your SNMPv3 configuration to another PowerChute Agent, follow the below steps:
  1. Open the pcbeconfig.ini file with a text editor (e.g. Notepad) and add the below entries in the [SNMP] section:
    • On Windows if installed to the default path go to C:\Program Files (x86)\APC\PowerChute Business Edition\agent
    • On Linux if installed to the default path go to /opt/APC/PowerChuteBusinessEdition/Agent
SNMPv3_AUTH_PASSPHRASE_Profile_1 = <authentication passphrase>
SNMPv3_PRIV_PASSPHRASE_Profile_1 = <privacy passphrase>
  1. Save the pcbeconfig.ini file.
  2. Copy the edited pcbeconfig.ini file to your additional copy of PowerChute. When the PowerChute Agent detects the SNMPv3 passphrases in the configuration file, the passphrases are encrypted and deleted from the pcbeconfig.ini file.
  3. Navigate to the SNMP Settings screen in the PowerChute Agent and ensure the passphrase fields are populated.
