Video: How do I update the firmware of my SMT, SMX, SMC, or SCL series Smart-UPS using the Firmware Upgrade Wizard?

Published date: 02 April 2020

There are two methods to update the firmware of the UPS:

  • Locally via a Serial or USB connection using the Firmware Upgrade Wizard application
  • Remotely via the Network Management Card (SMT or SMX models)
  • The Firmware Upgrade Wizard is the most reliable and preferred method of upgrading.

The Most Recent version of the Firmware Upgrade Wizard is 4.2.0, however some Smart-UPS require version 4.1.1. This document will help you to determine which version you need.

If you have a previous version of the Firmware Upgrade Wizard or Firmware Images, delete the old version and download the latest revision.
If you need to upgrade an SRT unit, or need to upgrade via the Network Management Card, refer to FAQ

Links to download all necessary files can be found at the end of this document.

To find your current Firmware level:
Run the Wizard and it will identify the current firmware version before performing the update.
For all but SMC unit:
From the main menu of the UPS LCD screen select "About" and scroll down to "UPS Firmware"

NOTE: Every Smart-UPS has a unique Micro-Link ID. This can be found in the "about" menu on the UPS LCD Screen, or via PowerChute.
  • You may find that the same models of UPS have different Micro-Link ID's depending on when they were produced.
  • The final firmware version will be determined by the Micro-Link ID and not the Model Number of the UPS.
  • If your Micro-Link ID is not listed, it does not have an update available.
  • The Firmware Upgrade Wizard will select the proper version for the unit you are upgrading.
