Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product with good features This unit fits the need for many reasons. It has great surge/arrest performance (3420 Joules) which is really good for use in my area which has quality power issues. The 5 outlets are fine for regular electrical plugs and 3 outlets are further spaced apart so that large plugs such as printer and sound equipment can fit. It has 2 places in the back of the unit set up so that you can install this unit either horizontally or vertically depending on your setup. The 6 foot power cord is adequate but I personally would rather have an 8 foot cord because of the setup in my office. Otherwise, this unit is fine and works perfectly

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good but not great I've been using this surge protector for a couple of weeks and it does a good job. Pros : It is solidly constructed from black plastic, the outlets are well spaced and there is a lighted strip at the end to let you know the power is on and the circuit is grounded. Cons : The sliding shutters over the outlets are a nuisance when trying to plug in a cord with one hand. When I opened the box, one of the shutters was stuck in the closed position and had to be pried open with a screw driver. While I was at it, I pried off all the shutters. Problem solved.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good product First, I want to note APC's great industry reputation and the warranty and connected equipment protection. That's the minimum for me when it comes to surge protectors. And it does have outlets with large spaces to accommodate power cords with bricks on the end. But I wish that there was one surge protector that combined features from this one and the other I received, the PH12U2. This one has a superior location for the power/reset button and sliders for the outlets not in use. It also has a higher joule rating and a much larger "EPP protection" amount. But the wall plug has no 90 degree bend in it which did not allow me to plug it in where I wanted, behind a bookcase. It also lacked the USB connections the other one had.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another Solid Surge Suppressor from APC The APC P8 is another fine offering from APC. This unit has a lot of positives: 1. It has room for 5 regular plugs and 3 wall wort plugs. 2. The plugs can be locked when not in use 3. It has a rating of 3420 joules. This is more than enough for what most people need. 4. It has a Grounded Indicator that glows green to let you know it’s stable. 5. The power switch is located on the side of the unit under the grounded indicator so you will not accidentally turn it off. There are only 2 minor quibbles I have with it: 1. It only has a 6ft. cord. An 8ft. cord would have been nice. 2. It does not have an angled plug. I had my laptop, my tablets and other devices attached and it worked flawlessly (as expected). Overall, this is a great surge suppressor for the money. Highly recommended!

APC Performance SurgeArrest 8 Outlet 120V
Maximum Power Surge Protection for Computers, Notebooks and Other Electronics
Includes: User Manual
  • Catastrophic Event Protection
SurgeArrest components such as MOVs and Thermal fuse ensure instantaneous reaction to lightning strikes and wiring faults. If the surge components are damaged due to power spike or over voltage, excess power cannot reach your equipment. Unlike the APC SurgeArrest products, most surge suppressors continue to let power through even after circuits have been damaged, leaving your equipment exposed to other damaging surges.
  • Fail Safe Mode
Most other surge suppressors continue to let power through even after their circuits have been damaged, leaving your equipment exposed to future surges. APC's SurgeArrest fail safe, which means that once the circuit of an APC SurgeArrest has been compromised the unit disconnects equipment from the power supply ensuring that no damaging surges reach your equipment.
  • IEEE let-through rating and UL 1449 compliance
The 'Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers' (IEEE) Let-Through Voltage rating is based on a test that subjects a Surge Protector to a 6,000 volt spike. The rating equates to the amount of excess voltage that reaches connected equipment. The lower the number, the better the performance of the Surge Protector is. Underwriter's Laboratory's UL1449 surge protection safety standard uses these ratings to help users gauge performance. UL's best Transient Voltage Surge Suppressor (TVSS) Let-Through Voltage rating is "300V".
  • Lightning and Surge Protection
To prevent damage to your equipment from electric power surges and spikes.
  • Noise Filtering
Attenuates EMI/RFI line noise that can cause data errors and keyboard lockups, ensuring better performance of protected equipment.
  • Protection Working Indicator
SurgeArrest will warn you if its circuitry has been damaged by heavy strike or power line surge and it is unable to provide 100% protection. If still under warranty, APC will then replace your damaged SurgeArrest free of charge.
  • Receptacle Shock Safety Shutters
Shutters protect users from accidental contact with unused outlets.
  • Resettable circuit breaker
Easy recovery from overloads; no need to replace a fuse. (Not available on Wall Tap SKUs)
  • Transformer Block Spacing
Connect bulky transformer block plugs without covering up other outlets.

SurgeArrest Performance Features & Benefits

Protection

Noise Filtering
Attenuates EMI/RFI line noise that can cause data errors and keyboard lockups, ensuring better performance of protected equipment.
Data-line Protection
Protection of data lines (Ethernet, Coaxial and Phone lines) ensures complete protection of your equipment from surges. It is very important to protect your equipment from “back door” electric surges traveling through data lines, as they can be as damaging to your equipment as surges traveling over power lines.
Phone Line Splitter
Allows use of two pieces of equipment at once, such as a modem and phone.
Lightning and Surge Protection
SurgeArrest components such as MOVs and Thermal fuse ensure instantaneous reaction to lightning strikes and wiring faults. If the surge components are damaged due to power spike or over voltage, excess power cannot reach your equipment. Unlike the APC SurgeArrest products, most surge suppressors continue to let power through even after circuits have been damaged, leaving your equipment exposed to other damaging surges.
