Configuring Microsoft Windows Vista, 7, 8, & 10, Windows Server 2008, 2012, 2016, & 2019 to safely shutdown without using APC's PowerChute software.

Issue:
How to configure Microsoft Windows Vista, 7, 8, & 10, Windows Server 2008, 2012, 2016, & 2019 to safely shutdown without using APC's PowerChute software.

Product:
APC branded UPS with Serial Connections

Environment:
Microsoft Windows Vista, 7, 8, & 10, Windows Server 2008, 2012, 2016, & 2019

Cause:
Informational

Solution:

Microsoft Windows Vista, 7, 8, & 10, Windows Server 2008, 2012, 2016, & 2019 do not have a native serial UPS shutdown. For a serial UPS use PowerChute Business Edition.

For any USB connected UPS these OS do have some configuration for shutdown if you do not want to use the supported APC software options. Once a USB UPS is connected, the OS adds configuration similar to that of a laptop with an on-board battery. Once this happens, you can set up a desktop or server's power options in the same way as a laptop.

Please review the attached PDF for instructions:

Also, if the native battery shutdown options are not displayed after uninstalling PowerChute software please review Video: What to do if the system is missing native shutdown battery options / How to restore HID UPS device driver.
