What is APC PowerChute?
APC PowerChute™ is UPS management software enabling graceful system shutdowns and providing energy management capabilities. During a power disturbance, PowerChute software allows you to remotely shutdown your connected critical devices, preventing potential data loss or corruption.
Our software editions: PowerChute Personal Edition, PowerChute Business Edition, and PowerChute Network Shutdown support operating systems Windows, Linux and various virtual machines in hyperconverged infrastructures (HCI).

How does UPS Graceful Shutdown work?
1. During prolonged power disturbances beyond the UPS backup duration, PowerChute triggers a graceful unattended shutdown of your connected equipment (PC, servers).
2. In enterprise environments, PowerChute Network Shutdown ensures the shutdown of virtual machines (VMs) is in the correct sequence. This capability maintains uptime by allowing workloads on virtual machines to continue running by moving them to hosts that are not impacted by the power outage. The sequenced migration protects against potential data loss and corruption.
3. When power is restored, the UPS turns on and begins supplying power to the server(s). Once the servers are back up, PowerChute Network Shutdown can detect stable conditions and then start the cluster services and VMs.
