Configure PowerChute Business Edition to allow graceful shutdown of virtual machines hosted on Windows Server 2019 Hyper-V (Role Enabled) OS Build 17763.1039

Issue:
On Windows Server 2019 Hyper-V (role enabled) OS build 17763.1039, virtual machines (VMs)do not shut down gracefully.

Product Line:
PowerChute Business Edition v10.0.1, 10.0.2

Environment:
Windows Server 2019 Hyper-V (role enabled), OS build 17763.1039 with VMs installed

Symptoms:
After a critical UPS event (e.g. On Battery), the VMs are not shut down gracefully.

Resolution:
1. Install and configure PowerChute.
2. Download and uncompress the attached date.zip file.
3. Copy the uncompressed date.cmd file to the \agent\cmdfiles directory of the PowerChute installation location. If the default location was selected, this will be C:\Program Files (x86)\APC\PowerChute Business Edition\agent\cmdfiles. This command file only prints the date and time of shutdown, but facilitates the graceful shutdown of VMs.
4. Log in to the PowerChute UI and navigate to the Shutdown Settings screen. Under Operating System and Application Shutdown, select the .cmd file. Provide an appropriate delay (minimum 10 seconds) to run the command file.
NOTES:
  • It is advised you test your configuration before applying it in a production environment. For example, simulate an On Battery event by unplugging the UPS device from its power source.
  • The steps outlined in this Knowledge Base article are a workaround to allow VMs to shut down gracefully with Windows Server 2019 Hyper-V (role enabled), OS build 17763.1039.
The issue outlined in this Knowledge Base article is resolved in Microsoft OS build 17763.1217. See Knowledge Base article KB4551853 for the patch file. NOTE: This patch will automatically be installed on your Windows system if automatic updates are turned on.
