What is the IP (ingress or international protection) rating of SMC, SMT and SMX series Smart-UPS?

Issue:
Ingress or international protection (IP) rating is required for SMC, SMT or SMX series Smart-UPS.

Product Line:
Smart-UPS model numbers beginning with SMC, SMT or SMX only
Note: Other models of Smart-UPS or Back-UPS may meet these same levels of IP, but have not been tested and verified for compliance

Cause:
IP ratings are used to determine how large an object, or liquid, may pass through the side panels, or roof, of an enclosure.

Resolution:
SMC, SMT and SMX models have been tested and verified for compliance with UL/CSA/IEC 60950-1 and are specified with IP rating 20: protects against solid objects greater than 12 mm and does not offer protection against water.

The IP Rating Scale is defined as follows:

1st number of the rating can change from 0-6 and indicates the degree of protection with respect to persons and solid objects.

0 = Not protected
1 = Protects against solid objects greater than 50 mm
2 = Protects against solid objects greater than 12 mm
3 = Protects against solid objects greater than 2.5 mm
4 = Protects against solid objects greater than 1.0 mm
5 = Dust protected
6 = Dust tight

2nd number of the rating can range from 0-8 and indicates degree of protection with respect to harmful ingress of water.

0 = Not protected
1 = Protects against dripping water
2 = Protects against dripping water of +- 15 degree angle
3 = Protects against spraying water of +- 60 degree angle
4 = Protects against splashing water
5 = Protects against water jets
6 = Protected against heavy seas
7 = Protects against immersion
8 = Protects against submersion
