NOTE: In March 2023, Schneider Electric released PowerChute Serial Shutdown to replace PowerChute Personal Edition. PowerChute Personal Edition is no longer available for download from SE.com or APC.com. We recommend installing PowerChute Serial Shutdown as it has enhanced features and benefits.

Pre-Installation Instructions for PowerChute Personal Edition
The APC UPS USB cable that ships with the UPS must be connected between the UPS and a USB port of your computer. See the owners guided for the connect USB cable.
Example part number 940-0127, that is RJ50 on the UPS side and USB A on the computer side.

If you have an existing version of PowerChute - other than v2.2, v3.0, v3.0.0.1 or v3.0.1 - then you must uninstall it using Windows "Add or Remove Programs".
PowerChute Personal Edition 3.0.x requires .NET framework 2.0 SP2 on Windows. The installation checks for this. If you are using a downloaded file to install PowerChute, you have to install a supported .NET version before proceeding. If you are using a CD, the PowerChute installation program will install the required .NET framework.

PowerChute Personal Edition 3.0.2 or 3.1 installation steps:

1. If you are using a CD, the installation program should start automatically when you insert the CD. If it doesn't or if you are using a download from the website, double-click "PCPE Installer.exe" to start the installation.
2. If you have PowerChute Personal Edition v2.2, v3.0, , v3.0.0.1, or v3.0.1, click the "Upgrade" button to continue.
3. Proceed through the installation screens.
With Windows Vista or later, when User Account Control (UAC) is enabled, a dialog requests you to "Allow" the installation. Click this to proceed.
The installation enables hibernation on your system and notifies you if it is not already enabled. See "Using hibernation and sleep" in the PowerChute help for background information.
4. In the Final screen, click on the "Register your product online" check box to register your product. Click "Finish".
