Serial communications between Smart-UPS VTs,Galaxy 3500, and Symmetra PX with IBM AS/400, i Series

Issue:
How to configure Smart-UPS VTs,Galaxy 3500, and Symmetra PX with IBM AS/400, i Series

Product line/s:
AP98275
AP9607

Environment:
IBM AS/400 server

Cause:
Installation information

Solution:
There is no tested support for AS400/IBM iSeries servers on our larger 3-phase UPS systems.

The current untested suggestion is if the customer already has a AP98275 cable kit, they can attempt to connect as they would to a Symmetra LX as outlined in the FA159551 K-Base.  Connection would be directly to the standard customer interface port (as if you were connecting to the NMC).
**Do not make ANY cable connections to this port unless in Maintenance Bypass, as there is always a risk of load loss.**
**remember that a Field Engineer could be dispatched to set a UPS to ‘never shutdown’ via IM programming**

The alternate solution is to run a script on some other PCNS compatible server that could interface with and shutdown the AS400.  We have no support for any scripts or connection suggestions.

Previously documented solution: no longer possible – do not suggest this by replacing a AP9607 with a AP9624 (untested with 3-phase UPS)
*********************************************************************************************
In order to use an IBM AS/400 or IBM iSeries server with a Smart-UPS VT, Galaxy 3500, Symmetra PX, or other larger 3-phase supported UPS, please follow the steps below:
  1. Remove Network Management Card (NMC) from the SmartSlot of the UPS.
·         If the UPS has two or more SmartSlots, you can refer to this document for the proper installation order of multiple accessories.
  1. Install simple signaling card part number AP9607 into the SmartSlot.
  2. If the NMC is needed and your UPS only has one SmartSlot, attach expansion chassis part numbers AP9600 or AP9604BLK to the serial port of the UPS and install the NMC in the chassis.
  3. Attach the proper serial cable* between the AP9607 and the IBM AS/400
*Available UPS Signalling Options for IBM AS/400 & IBMi (IBM Power Systems) can be found in FAQ FA159551.
