What's the workplace like at APC?

When APC employees meet someone new, one of the first questions they are asked is: "What's it like to work at APC?"

APC's emphasis on open communication, commitment to developing a diverse workforce, and philosophy of shared rewards has made APC an appealing place to work. What are the first steps in pursuing a position at APC?

There are many ways to pursue a position at APC. APC hosts information sessions, open houses, career fairs and on-campus interviews at many schools across the country for positions after graduation. Additionally, you may submit your resume at any time directly to our electronic database as recruiters regularly scan the database to match candidates with current opportunities.

When should I submit my resume to APC to be considered for a full-time position after graduation?

We do most of our college recruiting during the fall and spring semesters, but we review resumes and hire employees year round. You may submit your resume to APC at any time to be considered for an internship or a position after graduation. Once submitted, your resume will remain active in our Resumix database.

APC has a very results oriented, get-the-job-done culture with a focus on continuous improvement. The industry changes very quickly, and we are constantly facing new issues that require quick, creative problem solving. People are encouraged -- and expected -- to take the initiative in solving problems, expressing opinions and taking risks. We have an open-door environment, so feedback and coaching from management and peers is readily available.

Does APC actively train employees?

APC provides extensive training opportunities for employees.In addition to job-specific courses, APC provides a broad range of development programs to enhance personal and career growth.

Does one get mentored as a new hire at APC? How long does this mentorship relationship last?

Often managers will recommend one or more mentors soon after you join the company. It is then your responsibility to develop this relationship through one-on-one meetings and consistent communication. The mentoring relationship can last indefinitely, and often mentors become lifelong, trusted friends.

Is the work at APC mainly project oriented? If so, what is the average duration of these projects?

Work at APC is very project oriented. Projects add structure to your work by requiring you to define expectations, schedules and resources. Some projects, like designing the next-generation product, may span several years. Others may only take a week or two. Large projects are generally broken down into smaller sub-projects so they are more manageable, with shorter-term requirements and goals.

Because good project management is so important to our work at APC, all employees are encouraged to develop these skills. New employees are typically assigned to one or more projects. If you are part of a large project, you are generally given responsibility for a specific element. You would then be responsible for managing requirements and schedules, as well as coordinating with other sub-projects. The experience gained by having these responsibilities early in your career is invaluable.

How do I go about getting a summer internship with APC?

Our goal is to provide a real world, thought-provoking internship to undergraduate and graduate-level students.
