Solution:

Calculate the longest expected time to safely shut down the PCNS server and add 4 minutes.

Enter this value in the Network Management Card (NMC) user interface in the Low Battery Duration field (usually under UPS - Configuration - Shutdown). Now set it by selecting the Force Negotiation check box on the same screen and choosing the Apply button.


Background Explanation

Read the “Shutdown and Turn Off Sequence for the On Battery event” section in the PCNS online help to make this explanation clearer.

The longest expected time to safely shut down the PCNS server, mentioned above, must take into account how long it takes to run the shutdown command file (set up on the PCNS screen called “Configure Shutdown”).

The additional 4 minutes recommended comprises of:

1. When a Switched Outlet turn-off is initiated, PCNS has a built-in delay of 70 secs. As the NMC does not allow for this, it needs to be added manually. The Low Battery Duration field only recognizes minutes, so this is rounded up to 2 minutes.

2. Add another two minutes for any unforeseen circumstance(s).
