Why does auto detect fail when upgrading to PowerChute Business Edition v9.1.x on Windows Vista/7/8 and Server 2012
When attempting to upgrade a PowerChute Business Edition installation to version 9.1.x on Windows Vista, Windows 7, 8 or Server 2012:
a) User Account Control (UAC) enabled and
b) your UPS is connected with a serial cable,
three extra questions are posed in the installation.
The questions relate to: i) whether you have a RJ45 or DB9 type UPS port, ii) your communications port, and iii) your signal type. With the answers, the installation process can determine your UPS type.
PowerChute installs as expected after the questions are answered.
Usually PowerChute would be able to automatically determine your UPS type, however in the situation above, this is not possible.

Windows desktop OS's with User Account Control (UAC) enabled
UPS is connected using a serial port
This is caused by the launch.exe file not having sufficient permissions on the desktop OS's with UAC enabled.
If doing an upgrade on the these OS platforms, right-click on the "launch.exe" file before commencing the upgrade and select "Run as Administrator".
This will allow the upgrade to proceed and auto-detection to run correctly.
