Post-only mode was designed to allow NetBotz Version 2 (320/420/500) appliances to be installed at customer locations behind firewalls and be managed by a NetBotz Central at a headquarters location via HTTP or HTTPS connections across the Internet. Version 3 appliances (355/450/455/550/570) can also take advantage of this feature with the newer Data Center Expert systems
Post-only mode enables Version 2 and 3 appliances to communicate in a mode where the appliance always initiates the connection to NetBotz Central or StruxureWare Data Center Expert.
Customers do not have to create a hole/port forward on their firewall, the IP traffic from the appliance appears as normal web traffic and the appliance does not require a public IP address. In this scenario the NetBotz Central must have a public IP address.
When in Post-only mode, an appliance will periodically connect to the NetBotz Central (once every 30 minutes by default). Upon checking in with the NetBotz Central / Struxureware server, all data collected by the appliance is uploaded and then the appliance queries the NetBotz Central for any queued jobs such as changes or updates.
Note: When viewing current sensor readings and pictures for Post-only appliances, the data can be up to 30 minutes old by default as it is pulled from the database and is not live/real-time.
