Power Over Ethernet configuration supported by NetBotz products.
Issue:
Power Over Ethernet configuration supported by NetBotz products
Product Line:
NetBotz
Environment:
NetBotz version 3 Rack appliances and POE
Cause:
POE options that work with supported NetBotz version 3 rack appliances.
Resolution:
IEEE compliance offers 2 alternatives for Power Over Ethernet (POE). Alternative 'A' allows for power to be passed through wires 1, 2, 3, and 6 on a Cat-5 switch are the transmit and receive wires. Alternative 'B' allows for power to be passed using the unused pairs 4, 5, 7, and 8 on a Cat-5 cable.
Alternative 'A' is usually output by a switch or endspan device. Alternative 'B' is more often used by a midspan device such as a POE injector. APC's POE injector (NBAC0303) inserts power on the Cat-5 cable using alternative 'B'
NetBotz POE compatible appliances work with either alternative and should power on with alternative 'A' or 'B'.
