Back-UPS product does not turn off after PowerChute shuts down the Operating system

Issue:

Back-UPS product does not turn off after PowerChute shuts down the Operating system.

Product Line:

Back-UPS, Back-UPS PRO

Environment:

Back-UPS UPS with Serial DB-9 communication ports.

Cause / Resolution:

When a Computer is shut down the serial port is closed. An APC smart signaling UPS can continue to function because it can receive and store a delay time to wait before going to ""sleep"" (i.e. cutting UPS output power off and waiting in dormant state for normal input power before powering up the load again). During this delay time, the OS shuts down and the serial port is closed.

By contrast, an APC simple signaling Back-UPS product cannot receive and store a delay time, so it cannot wait for the shutdown prior to going into ""sleep"" mode. Therefore, an APC simple signaling Back-UPS product cannot be put to sleep. However if the power does not come back to normal operating parameters when the battery has been exhausted the UPS will cut power to the equipment connected to the battery outlets
