APC's Recycling and Take-Back Programs

Discarded electronic equipment is one of the fastest growing waste streams in the industrialized world, due to the growing sales of these products. Without effective collection, reuse and recycling systems, this discarded equipment will overwhelm our waste management systems. APC has provided customers with the opportunity to return and recycle the batteries contained within Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPSs) and, via initiatives like the APC Trade-UPSs program, allowed customers to return end-of-life UPSs for recycling and a credit towards new units. To ensure compliance with the requirements of the WEEE directive in Europe, APC has set up a process for managing end-of-life APC products that are generated in the European Union.

WEEE Program: The following summarizes this process:

  • Private households in countries with collection systems for electronic wastes should continue to utilize these arrangements for end-of-life products.
  • APC is committed to providing APC commercial customers with recycling services that conform to the WEEE directive. Currently, these services are being modified.
