Schneider Electric, requires all refrigerant installations to use clean, refrigerant-grade ACR Type L pipe, Hard Copper. It is expected all standard procedures are taken for pipe size selections for air-cooled equipment.
Soft copper can form sharp bends which may cause a restriction compromising the integrity of the piping. Bends create oil traps and pressure drops to be not taken into consideration, unlike with hard temper copper. Supporting soft copper is also a concern. There is no easy way to keep soft copper straight enough to be supported for commercial use. Pipe supporting is critical in commercial use.
Hard copper is able to withstand more external pressure than soft copper because it holds its shape better. In air conditioning applications or where pipes will be exposed, hard copper won't bend or sag under extreme heat. Hard copper tends to withstand more extremes than smaller soft copper pipes and resists more impact.
SOFT COPPER IS PROHIBITED AND IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. ALL INSTALLATIONS WITH SOFT COPPER WILL BE REJECTED.
